Ashtanga Yoga, often referred to as “Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga,” is a physically demanding and structured style of yoga known for its flowing sequences of postures linked by breath (vinyasa) and a fixed order of series offering a multifaceted approach to achieving ultimate liberation (samadhi). While often discussed in conjunction with physical postures (asana), it offers a much broader framework encompassing ethical principles, discipline, breath control, meditation, and more. It draws inspiration from the “eight limbs of yoga” outlined in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, seeking to integrate physical practice with ethical and philosophical principles. Ashtanga Yoga offers a unique and challenging path to physical and mental development. It’s best suited for individuals seeking a disciplined and dedicated yoga practice.
